Chiropractic Education Over my years in clinical practice a few patients have asked, "How long do you have to go to school to become a Chiropractor." To receive a Doctor of Chiropractic degree one must attend undergraduate school and receive a four year degree. Then one applies to the Chiropractic College of their choice. If accepted the DC (Doctor of Chiropractic) program is five years long. The degree requires over 4400 hours of classroom instruction. During the last 1 1/2 years the student also works in the College's Chiropractic Clinic performing all aspects of patient care and treatment. Five separate National Board exams must also be passed before becoming licensed doctors. The chart below compares a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree program with a Medical Doctor (MD) degree program.
Courses Doctor of Chiropractic Medical Doctor classroom hours classroom hours 540 Anatomy 508 240 Physiology 326 360 Pathology 401 165 Chemistry 325 120 Microbiology 114 630 Diagnosis 324 320 Neurology 112 360 X-Ray 148 60 Psychiatry 144 60 Obstetrics 148 210 Orthopedics 156 3,065 Total Hours 2,706 1,420 Other Required Subjects 1,542 GRAND TOTAL CLASS HOURS 4,485 DC degree 4,248 MD degree As you can see from this chart your Doctor of Chiropractic is highly qualified and educated to care for all aspects of your health. In fact, we receive far more education in musculoskeletal conditions then a Medical Doctor. This is why your first choice of a Doctor for many conditions should be a Chiropractor.
1. Chiropractic First 2. Drugs and Medicine Second 3. Surgery Last If you have a problem that we do not think we can help, we will send you to a provider who can.
